Benefitting our children, strengthening our community

Welcome to a New School Year!

The TFS Parents' Association is pleased to welcome you to the start of the 2016-17 school year! The PA works to engage and strengthen the TFS community for the benefit of all our children. We organize events and programs for families that add to the school’s great learning environment while raising funds that support special projects and activities for students.

Sent at the start of every month, this newsletter is one of the ways in which the PA helps you to stay updated on news and activities in the TFS community. You can also visit us on the web at, reach out to us with questions or suggestions at or find us in the school hallways at drop-off or pickup time.

We have some new faces on the West Campus PA team this year! Teresa Sottana has joined as our Secretary and Rummy Gill is our new Class Parent Coordinator. A list of West Campus PA Representatives and Class Parents is included at the end of this email, and can also be found on the PA West website.

Be sure to say hello to us when you see us at school!

Ayaz, Mariana, Teresa, Rummy, Honey, and Sara.

Don’t Forget to Sign up for Pizza Lunch Fridays!

With 98% of students participating each year, Pizza Lunch is the biggest fundraising program of the West Campus TFS Parents' Association. Every Friday, the kids are served delicious cheese, pepperoni, veggie, or specialty pizza, as well as fruit and vegetables and a choice of milk or juice.

Pizza Lunch is a nutritious treat that TFS kids look forward to sharing with their friends at the end of each week. And for parents, Pizza Friday offers a break from making lunches!

The deadline to sign up online is Friday, September 9! The Pizza Lunch program is open to West Campus students in JK to Grade 7 at a cost of $248 per child for the full year (30 meals), to be charged directly to your TFS account. The first pizza lunch, will be served on September 9 — don’t forget to send a reusable plate with your child!

PAW and Learning Café

We are pleased to announce that the first PA West Campus (PAW) community meeting will be held in conjunction with a TFS Learning Café titled Let’s Talk About Health Education.

The Learning Café will look at the Human Development component of the Ontario Curriculum and TFS health education expectations for the 2016-17 school year. It will be presented by Dr Susan Elliott Executive Director of the TFS Learning Forum, Alexandre Ferrand, Principal of the TFS Junior School and Claudette Landry, Principal of the TFS West Campus.

Held three times each year, PAW meetings provide the West Campus parent community a chance to review and give feedback on PA priorities, progress and the budget. All parents are invited and strongly encouraged to attend on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 7:30 PM in the school gym.

Birthday Book Club

Organized by the Parents’ Association in partnership with the school library, the Birthday Book Club is a wonderful TFS tradition that encourages our children’s love of reading while building the West Campus library collection. Last year, the Birthday Book Club families added 28 volumes to the West Campus library, including popular fiction and nonfiction titles in French and English like L'encyclopedie des sauvenatureIf Kids Ruled the World and La vie compliquée de Léa Olivier (1 – 4).

Kids who are signed up can look forward to choosing a new book during the month of their birthday, which is stamped with a personalized commemorative donor’s bookplate before they sign it out for the very first time.

Register by Monday, September 26 and help to grow the legacy of literature at the West Campus library. The cost of $25 per child will be charged to your TFS account.

RFRK Lunch Program

Once again this year, parents of JK to Grade 7 students can order lunches prepared by Real Foods for Real Kids (aka RFRK). They use quality ingredients to provide yummy, nourishing meals to children at a reasonable price, and they are also the school’s lunch provider for PK students under the Day Nurseries Act.

Used Uniform Sale and Donations

The PA will be holding a Used Uniform Sale in the foyer on Thursday, September 8 and Friday, September 9. Stock up on first dress items for first dress Mondays! We will also be accepting donations of any clean, gently used uniform items that you may wish to drop off.

We Need Your Help!

Volunteering with TFS Parents’ Association is a great way to get involved in the school community and make a real difference for our children. Whether you have one hour on a random day or ten hours in a week, there are lots of opportunities to suit every parent’s availability. Here are some areas where we could use your help:

  • Annual Fun Fair & BBQ
  • International Pot Luck
  • Comité de Bienvenue (Welcome committee)
  • Pizza Lunch
  • Sports Coordinator

In addition, the West Campus PA representatives team is searching for someone to fill the Executive Representative position.

If you would like to know more about any of the roles listed above, or simply want to know how you can get involved with the PA, please email us at and we’ll be happy to share more information with you!
